Understanding Your Speed Test Results

Your internet speed affects everything from streaming video quality to how quickly files upload and download. Here's what each measurement means:

Download Speed

Download speed measures how fast data travels from the internet to your device. Higher download speeds mean faster streaming, quicker file downloads, and smoother web browsing.

  • 1-5 Mbps: Basic web browsing and email
  • 5-25 Mbps: HD video streaming, video calls
  • 25-100 Mbps: 4K streaming, online gaming, multiple devices
  • 100+ Mbps: Large file downloads, professional use

Upload Speed

Upload speed measures how fast data travels from your device to the internet. This is important for video calls, uploading files, live streaming, and cloud backups.

Ping (Latency)

Ping measures the time it takes for a small data packet to travel from your device to a server and back, measured in milliseconds (ms). Lower ping means more responsive connections.

  • 1-20 ms: Excellent - ideal for gaming and real-time apps
  • 20-50 ms: Good - suitable for most activities
  • 50-100 ms: Fair - may notice slight delays
  • 100+ ms: Poor - noticeable lag in real-time applications

Tip: For the most accurate results, close other applications and pause any downloads or streams before running the test. Wired connections typically provide more consistent speeds than Wi-Fi.
